Best man duties will vary on a case-by-case basis, but there are a few things most honorees can expect to have to do. Traditions, personal preference, finances and even geography can come into play to dictate what he will be asked to do and what he might not. He, too, might be asked to host a bachelor party and assist with scheduling for the rehearsal dinners and more.
During: Best mans duties tend to be the biggest on the day of the wedding. It is leading right up to the ceremony and during it the biggest best man obligations come into play. Some responsibilities of a best man during the wedding might include making sure groomsmen are where they should be when they should be, holding the ring and passing it on at the appointed time and even assisting the groom in getting ready. At the reception, the biggest best man and duties fear for some will likely come true. It is a best man obligation to lead off with a toast and/or speech to the couple.
While best man duties generally fall into the before and after categories, some grooms will ask for different assistance leading up to the big day. Others might require less. A lot of what ends up being a best many duty will depend on the relationship between the groom and his best man, the circumstances of the wedding and the geography involved. A best man who lives 500 miles away might not be held responsible for the bachelor party, for example.
