Bridesmaid Duties

It’s not only a big honor to stand up for a close friend or relative in a wedding, it can also be a whole lot of fun. There are some responsibilities that come along with the job, however. Fortunately, bridesmaid duties are not generally very extensive. They are quite important though.

Bridesmaid duties will range greatly from wedding to wedding. Each bride will have her own ideas on what needs to be done leading up to and during the ceremony and even at the reception. Some brides will expect bridesmaid duties to be nothing more than dressing the part and showing up on time. Others will have more extensive ceremonies that might require each bridesmaid to do a bit more than walk and smile.

Bridesmaid responsibilities whether they’re extensive or quite limited are very important for making sure the wedding goes off smoothly. With this in mind, the duties of a bridesmaid should be taken quite seriously. They include:

Dress: Even junior bridesmaid duties, responsibilities will fall into this realm. This means those who agree to serve in a ceremony will wear whatever the bride seems. It’s okay to make suggestions on dresses, but if it’s pink chiffon she wants, it should be pink chiffon she gets. Saying yes to bridesmaid duties means saying yes to any attire chosen.

Fittings: These also tend to go along with the bridesmaid duties. Dresses must be fitted correctly, shoes chosen to match and so on. This will require the bridesmaids to show up at appointed times before the ceremony to ensure everything is just right.

Rehearsals: Everyone in a wedding has a role to play. Knowing that role inside out and backward is what the real duties of bridesmaids and groomsmen are. Whether it’s nothing more than walking down the aisle or the tasks asked are more extensive, showing up for rehearsals is important.

Ceremony: During the ceremony itself, the duties of a bridesmaid will really come into play. It’s important for bridesmaids to show up on time, wear what they’ve been asked and fulfill their obligations to ensure the wedding day is as close to perfect as it can be.

Bridesmaid duties are not always extensive, but they are very important. Those who have been asked and accept should expect to have to do a few things and they should take their role seriously. While being a bridesmaid can be fun, it does come with some responsibilities, as well.
